~ Victorian Silver & Glass Anchor Shaped Scent Bottle c1847 ~
A rare and unusual Victorian scent bottle in the form of an anchor dated for 1847.
The piece is made from silver and a thick emerald green glass.
The item can store up to three different scents as each glass ‘arm’ is separate from one another and each has its own ‘opening’.
The central arm is topped with a screw top lid to which the large suspension loop is attached. The loop is adjoined to a chain which is secured near the base of the piece.
The two side arms have silver flip top lids. One arm still retains its small glass stopper.
Much of the silver parts are beautifully engraved.
There is a circular cartouche near the base to the front which presumably was for a personal engraving; the owners initials or similar.
The silver is not hallmarked but the piece does have a design registry number which gives the date of manufacture as 10th April 1847.
An exquisite example.
~ Dimensions ~
The piece has a width of 8cm and a length of 9.5cm.
It weighs 70.4g.
~ Condition ~
One of the glass arms has some small internal hairline cracks and has evidence of being reattached with glue.
The other arm has a couple of small chips.
The piece overall is in a nice condition with general light wear commensurate with age.
