*Vintage Marcasite Lizard Brooch with Turquoise-Coloured Eyes*
A decorative vintage lizard-form brooch set with numerous faceted marcasite stones forming the reptile’s textured “scales.” The brooch depicts a stylised lizard in motion with an elongated curved tail and raised limbs, giving the piece a lively and dynamic appearance.
The body is arranged in a geometric scale pattern, each section inset with small marcasite stones which create a distinctive metallic shimmer when the piece catches the light. The head is highlighted with two small turquoise-coloured cabochon stones forming the eyes, providing an attractive contrast against the metallic finish.
The reverse retains its long pin fastening with hook clasp, and the underside is finished with a hammered scale texture corresponding to the front design.

History Note:
Animal-form jewellery was particularly popular throughout the mid-20th century, especially pieces set with marcasite. Marcasite jewellery became fashionable during the Art Deco period (1920s–1930s) and remained widely produced through the 1940s–1960s, often in silver, silver plate, or other white-metal alloys.
Lizard and salamander motifs were commonly used in decorative brooches and dress jewellery due to their flowing shapes, which allowed designers to incorporate numerous small stones to create a sparkling “scaled” effect.
*Condition*
Good vintage condition overall. The brooch appears to retain its marcasite stones and turquoise-coloured eye stones. Light surface wear and minor age-related marks consistent with normal use. The pin and clasp remain present and functional. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
