Description

*WW1, Dated 1918, .303 Enfield ShtLE (SMLE) Bolt Action Rifle MK 111*, Deactivated*

25.25" Barrel, .303 cal. Serial number W4448

Crown Cypher over GR, Enfield 1918 ShtLE Mk 111*. Enfield indicates that it was made at the Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield and ShtLE was the abbreviation for Short Lee-Enfield. Serial number W448 right of the receiver ring and inside the sight. The stock is faintly stamped with a circle containing S War Arrow A, which may indicate that it was imported into South Africa, South Australia or India - all of whom used SA with or without a war arrow.

The Lee–Enfield, or Enfield, a bolt-action, magazine-fed rifle, served as the British Empire's main firearm from 1895 to 1957. The Mk. III* was a simplified wartime version used in WWI, WWII, and beyond. It omitted the magazine cut off, volley sights, and windage adjustment on the rear sight. Noteworthy is the unchanged protective ear, positioned to the right to accommodate the absent windage screw.

Deactivated, this rifle is an iconic 20th-century collectible.

*Condition*
This rifle is in excellent condition. The metal parts have an light, even patina and the trigger is not held with any tension. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report. Fully deactivated.
