The bayonet comes with composite bakelite grips, a beautifully crafted steel blade, hilt and scabbard.
This is a New Pattern (n.A.) bayonet with the flash protection on the grip.
The scabbard is made of black painted steel.
The ricasso bears the manufacturer mark “Waffenfabrik Mauser A G”.
The same side is marked with the serial number “947”.
The spine is tamped with the imperial mark.
The bayonet comes with a fully functional spring catch release button for attachment to Mauser rifle.
This is a rare, highly collectible piece and a great addition to any Gew 98 rifle.
The metal elements of this bayonet are chromed so this could’ve also been used for parade purposes.
The blade has a length of 14 ¼ inches (36 cm) and the sword in its scabbard has a total length of 20 ½ inches (52 cm).
It weighs 855 g.
There are some light scratches on the blade but the item presents well.
The steel has developed some surface rust and the blade developed surface pitting but overall the item is in fair condition for its age.
