Description

Here we have something incredible, a British infantry officers sword dating to the First World War period that has been posthumously engraved with details of the owners death in combat.

Firstly the sword is of brilliant quality with deep engravings and an exceptionally nice guard, outfitted by the company Clement Cray and marked ‘PROVED’ on the reverse side.

The sword has also been engraved with the name ‘N Andrews Sussex’ and the legend ‘KIA France’ with the back edge of the blade stamped ‘1.17.18’ indicating that this officer was killed within months of the end of the war.

This is an absolutely incredible piece of history and a truly one of a kind piece.

The sword is constructed of a steel blade and guard with a shagreen and wire wrapped grip.

The scabbard is the standard leather covered service scabbard.

~ Dimensions ~

The overall length in the scabbard is 100cm.

~ Condition ~

The sword is in brilliant condition for its age, the scabbard has some wear to the leather and is missing the metal tip.
