    Description

*WW1 Swedish M1914 Sword Bayonet and Scabbard*

This is a sword bayonet designed for use with the 6.5 mm. M1894/14 Mauser Carbine, and it can also be attached to the 9 mm. Carl Gustaf Submachine Gun m/1945C (Kulsprutepistol m/1945C). Its distinctive hilt design reveals that it was intended for a rifle that originally did not have provisions for bayonet mounting. In 1914, modifications were made to the M1894 Carbines by adding a nose cap that featured a bayonet mount. Although Sweden remained neutral in WW1 they adopted a stance of “military preparedness”, their military was strengthened and defensive measures were implemented to safeguard the country’s neutrality.

The ricasso on the blade displays the maker’s mark, ‘EJ AB,’ along with a Naval Anchor symbol representing Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB (Eskilstuna Iron Manufacturing, Inc.). The tang of the bayonet carries a crown cypher inspection mark, as does the press stud and the ball finial on the scabbard. The grips are half-round and secured by two round slot head bolts with round slot washers. The steel pommel has a raised fixing slot and catch, while the bayonet features a cross-guard and muzzle ring. The blade itself is 330 mm (approximately 13 inches) long, double-edged, and polished steel. The bayonet comes complete with a steel scabbard.

The scabbard is attached by a spring-loaded catch, which can be released using a square-hatched head to secure it in the wooden grip. This setup strongly suggests that this scabbard is likely the original one intended for this bayonet.

    *Condition*
The blade is clean and bright, the scabbard, hilt and pommel aged a bit with only minimal wear and a few minor dents. The wood scale grips have usage dents and traces of aging.
