*WW2 German Fuerwer/Fireman Dress Dagger & Scabbard*
This is a nice example of a short pattern German Dress Dagger. It has a brass pommel, the typical "S" shape cross-guard used on the Fireman issue bayonet, checkered black bakelite grip plates, retained by nickel rivets with dressed obverse heads. There is a leather washer at the tang and a black painted scabbard. This was a dress version of the K98 bayonet combat style, and was worn by enlisted and NCO personnel for dress and parade occasions. This also included civic organizations such as Police and Feuerschutzpolizei (Fire Protection Police) units.
The blade is 24.3cm long. The dagger in its scabbard has a length of 37cm.
There is no manufacturer mark stamped on it, which is quite common on these pieces.
*Condition*
The dagger is unmarked. The blade has some scratches and there is some pitting but there are no visible dents or chips. The brass crosspiece and pommel has developed some patina but the diamond-shaped grip is in good condition. The scabbard has developed surface rust and the button is loose but the piece presents well. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
