~ WW2 German Kriegsmarine Blockade Runner Badge ~
The WW2 German Kriegsmarine Blockade Runner Badge (Blockade-Runners-Abzeichen der Kriegsmarine) was instituted on 1 April 1941 to recognise the crews of German merchant ships and naval auxiliaries that successfully ran Allied blockades during World War II. These operations were perilous, often requiring ships to navigate enemy-controlled waters under constant threat of interception, attack, or capture.
The badge’s design reflects this daring service: a ship breaking through a chain of blockades, encircled by an oak leaf wreath, with a swastika at the base. It was worn on the left breast of the uniform and awarded not only for successful missions but also to honour the courage and endurance of sailors who kept vital supply lines open under extreme risk.
