~ WW2 Nazi German U-Boat / Submarine Badge ~
The WW2 German U-Boat Badge (U-Boot-Abzeichen) was a prestigious military decoration of the Kriegsmarine, instituted on 13 October 1939 by Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz. It recognised the dangerous and demanding service of U-boat crews during the Battle of the Atlantic.
The badge was awarded to submarine crew members after completing two operational patrols, though it could also be granted earlier for acts of merit or bravery. Designed to honour the unique challenges of submarine warfare, it symbolised skill, endurance, and courage in confined, hazardous conditions beneath the sea.
Physically, the badge featured a submarine superimposed on a stylised oak leaf wreath, with a swastika at the base (on early versions). It was typically worn on the left breast pocket of the uniform and became a mark of pride among Kriegsmarine personnel.
