~ 1930s French Art Deco style Bakelite Jaz clock ~
This is an interesting example of a Bakelite Jaz clock which is lovely designed and it comes with a chrome frame, mineral bevelled glass and an unusual stepped top.
The clock has Arabic numerals and the bottom centre of the clock face is marked with the French writing “_COMPAGNIE INDUSTRJELLE DE MECANIQUE HORLOQUERE_PARIS__”. The centre of the clock face bears the manufacturer mark “JAZ”.
Jaz was founded in Paris in 1919 by Ivan Benel and Louis Gustave Brandt under a different name. In the early 1930s JAZ experienced an expansion in all areas: that of collections with current models, luxury, original creations and clocks with alarm functions. This Bakelite clock seems to be a higher quality model from that “expansion era”.
~ Dimensions ~
The clock measures 16.3cm (6 ½ inches) wide, 5.8cm (2 ¼ inches) deep with a height of 14cm (5 ½ inches).
It weighs 795g.
~ Condition ~
There are a few light scratches along the stepped top but the Bakelite is otherwise in a crisp looking condition.
The metal back of the clock has developed some surface rust and shows pitting signs but there are no dents or bumps.
The clock is in good working order.
