~ 1798 George III Gold Guinea Rare Coin ~
This 1798 Third Guinea features George III first Laurel Head on the obverse and the date below a crown on the reverse. Minted only during the reign of George III, the Third Guinea was struck from 1797 to 1813. These small gold coins of George III were the last striking of the denomination.
~ History of the Guinea ~
First issued in 1663 during the reign of King Charles II, it was named after the Guinea Coast region where much of the gold used to strike the coin originated. Worth one pound or twenty shillings, it was the first British coin to be struck by machine and became renowned for its accuracy and reliability.
