Beautiful JUNGHANS stopwatch or torpedo timer – the hand makes one revolution every 30 seconds, precision of 1/10 of a second. A white metal nickel open face case with a hinged back and bezel. A white enamel dial with black Arabic 30 second outer track – numerals 1-30, with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 sized up; with subsidiary dial counting 15 elapsed minutes – 3,6,9,12,15. Signed “Junghans”. Reverse with Nazi eagle and swastika over “M” (Marine) acceptance stamp and navy reference number “Nr 2309”. Serial number 494493 marked inside the case. 4.9cm diameter.
Junghans was founded by Erhard Junghans on the 15th April 1861 with his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller. By 1903, Junghans became the largest watch factory in the world and in 1956 it was the third largest chronometer manufacturer right behind Rolex and Omega.
