Description

*"M-63 Yugoslav Peoples Army (JNA) Field Telephone", made by Iskra*

This is the Yugoslav People's Army field telephone developed in the early 60's as successor to the PTI-49. The instrument's overall design is clearly based on the US TA-43/PT. The field telephone was produced by the Slovenian factory "Iskra" and its logo is clearly visible. Iskra is a Slovenian and former Yugoslavian company for electromechanics, telecommunications, electronics and automation that was born from a factory founded by the Germans in 1941.

In 1965, Iskra introduced the M-63 induction field telephone, for telephone communication over a field wire lines at ranges on distanced up to 30 km.

From the Regulations for Inductor Telephone M-63: "The inductor telephone M-63 is intended for maintaining telephone connections in all units of the JNA (Yugoslav People's Army) primarily in field conditions. To work over automatic telephone exchanges, the M-63 telephone must use dial unit BN-1."

This example is missing the lid and strap as well as the cable for the phone. The waterproof housing is made of lightweight aluminum resistant to mechanical damage. It belongs to LB (local battery) system with magneto ringing and can be included into CB station systems. The ringing circuit could be up to 115 VAC, frequency of 25 Hz, and microphone was powering on with two batteries type R-20 (3 VDC). Inside the battery you can see the remnant of the sticker "POLOZAJ BAT". In the middle the buzzer volume (ZU), the line test button (ID) and the mode button (R, LB, CB). The telephone has a toggle switch, R for work with the radio station, LB for work via local battery exchanges, and CB for work via CB exchanges (ATC). For operation in central-battery automatic systems, an additional external dial mounted in a waterproof housing was used (not included)- type BN-1.

Handset is MK80 (typically would be MK 1a) with P.T.T. lever.

On the reverse is the product number 34k123.

*Condition*

This historic piece is in good condition. It is missing it's top lid, instructions and phone cable but is in otherwise good condition with the expected scratches and dings commensurate with its service history. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
