~ WWI German Brass Infantry Bugle And Identification Tag ~
The short Infantry model bugle is made of brass with a nickle edge at the bell.
To the front of the bugle is a stamped brass disc displaying the Imperial Eagle and just next to this is the makers stamp and date of manufacture ‘J. Altrichter, Frankfurt, 1915’.
The identification tag (Erkennungsmarke), issued to all German soldiers, is stamped ‘1. /Jnf. Ers. Btl. 316’. It also shows the blood-type as ‘A’ and has the no. ‘5652’.
The letters have been stamped and then painted in white.
This particular tag has both sides orientated the same way up.
These items were purchased in Ypres where they had previously been museum artifacts.
~ Dimensions ~
The bugle has a length of 10 inches (25.5cm) and a depth of 6 ½ inches (16.5cm). The diameter of the bell measures 4 ½ inches (11.5cm). It weighs 530g.
The identification tag measures 2 ¾ inches (7cm) by 2 inches (5cm) and weighs 20g.
~ Condition ~
The bugle is in quite good condition apart from two rather large dents and a few small dents. It has general wear and scratches.
The mouthpiece is intact, and is complete with both carrying rings.
The I.D. tag is worn and bent but still in good condition. The stamps are a little rubbed in parts but still legible.
