~ Indian Mutiny Medal 1858 LUCKNOW With Associated Paperwork ~
A silver medal with the diademed head of a young Queen Victoria on one side.
The reverse shows a helmeted Britannia holding a wreath in her right hand and a union shield on her left arm.
She is standing in front of a lion. Above is the word INDIA, with the dates 1857-1858 below.
This Indian Mutiny Medal was a campaign medal approved in 1858, for issue to officers and men of British and Indian units who served under command of Sir Colin Campbell and who were engaged in final operations leading to the surrender of Lucknow and the clearing of the surrounding areas.
It bears the recipient’s rank and unit on the rim : CAPT. R. MOORE, 1st BATN 5th FUSRS.
~ Dimensions ~
The medal has a diameter of just under 1.5 inches (3.5 cm).
The 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) wide ribbon is white with two scarlet stripes, with each stripe of equal width.
It weighs 40 g.
~ Conditions ~
This is in excellent order, with only slight signs of wear and minimal scratching (pictured).
