A WW1 Group of Medals (6):
O.B.E.: Silver O.B.E. with four marks on a purple and red ribbon, in its original case. Awarded to Flight Lt (Act. Hon. Sqdn Leader) G.W.C. Kaye as per the London Gazette on 10 October 1919.
War Medal: Named (missing Victory Medal).
George V Silver Jubilee Medal.
George VI Coronation Medal.
George V Territorial Decoration.
Full set of corresponding miniature medals, swing-mounted for wearing.

Science Medallions (4):
Four boxed medallions awarded for contributions to science:

Mackenzie Davidson Medal 1922: Named.
Antoine Béclère Medal.
Silvanus Thompson Medal 1935: Named.
Pierre-et-Marie Curie Medal: Named.

All are large, unmounted, and come with original presentation boxes. (Note: The Stanley Melville Medal of the Society of Radiographers, was also awarded to Kaye but is not part of this collection.)

George William Clarkson Kaye 8 April 1880 - 16 April 1941:

An English physicist renowned for co-authoring "Tables of Physical and Chemical Constants and Some Mathematical Functions" with Thomas Laby, first published in 1911 and widely known as Kaye and Laby. He played a key role in the establishment and early years of the International X-ray and Radium Protection Committee (IXRPC), the first international radiological protection body, founded in 1928.

He was born in Honley, West Yorkshire and attended Huddersfield Technical School. He was Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Electrical Engineers (Volunteer Corps) on 5 December 1903, and Lieutenant-colonel in 1908. He studied at University College, Liverpool, and the Royal College of Science, earning a B.Sc. in experimental physics in 1903. He attended Trinity College, Cambridge, earning a B.A. in advanced studies on 18 June 1908. He was assistant to J. J. Thomson at the Cavendish Laboratory and worked for the Metrology Department of the National Physical Laboratory. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1939.

Kite Balloon Officer. Inter-Services X-Ray Advisory Committee member. Listed in the Army Lists 1939, The War List of the University of Cambridge, Trinity College 1921. Major in the RAF Aircraft Production Department.

*Condition*
This is a unique medal collection that charts the military and scientific achievements of a rare individual. A WW1 pilot, Major, Kite Balloon Officer, Doctor of Physics, Fellow of the Royal Society and an author. Please see photographs as part of the condition report. The photograph of Dr George William Clarkson Kaye is included for reference but it is not part of the sale.
