Description

~ Late 19th Century Schutz-Marke Polyphone Music Box ~

The case is a superior quality walnut case, very beautiful and made in Germany. The lid has a wooden inlay of an attractive floral design. The case has two moulded brass handles either side for easy lifting.

On the left hand side, at the centre of the handle is a small brass knob, when pulled out music will begin to play, when pushed back in the music will stop when the disk reaches the end. On the right hand side, at the centre of the handle is a key hole to wind up the polyphone with the handle.

The lid opens on a hinge and reveals an image inside the lid. The image is behind glass however at the top right hand corner the glass has a crack.

The mechanism/disk is visible through a glass sheet. The mechanism is in perfect order and plays beautifully. The brass plate situated inside the mechanism reads “Schutz-Marke Trade Mark” & “Made in Germany”.

The original wind up handle is present with this set; also included are 38 polyphone metal disks.

~ Dimensions ~

The box has a width of 20 inches (50.6 cm), a depth of 16.25 inches (41.3cm) & is 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height.

It weighs 19.23 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The box is in excellent condition and the mechanisms are in perfect working order. The glass containing the image has a crack in the top left hand corner.

We advise collection for this item, we are located in Portsmouth. We are able to ship this however we are unable to cover for any broken glass.
