He saw action aboard HMS Falmouth at the pivotal Battle of Jutland in 1916 and is also recorded aboard HMS Repulse, with his WWI trio officially issued to that ship. He rose to Chief Petty Officer Telegraphist, illustrating a steady and distinguished career in naval communications.
He was later awarded the Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 3 June 1926, while serving on HMS Colombo. His service record further shows peacetime postings through the interwar period and involvement during WWII.

Historical Note:
HMS Falmouth played a significant role at Jutland before being torpedoed and sunk later in 1916. Bear’s telegraphist role placed him at the heart of fleet communications during this major naval battle. His continued service on notable ships like HMS Repulse and HMS Colombo demonstrates a distinguished career bridging both world wars and key peacetime postings.
