~ WW1 Raw Edge 1st Pattern Brodie Helmet With RFC Liner ~
The helmet skull is painted gloss black and this appears to be the original finish.
The inner rim of the inside of the helmet is stamped “MXAC3”.
The chinstrap looks to be a period, commercial piece.
The helmet is lined with a black rubberised canvas with twelve red rubber tubes. My best guess is this is an Royal Flying Corp liner and the helmet was used by ground crew.
This is a typical private purchase liner variation probably made by Lincoln Bennet & Co of Sackville Street, Piccadilly, London made for an officer.
~ Dimensions ~
The helmet has a overall height of 5.3 inches (13.5cm) and is 12 inches (30.5cm) front to back. It weighs 1kg.
~ Condition ~
The helmets paint is fairly chipped and worn. The skull, liners and chinstrap are in decent vintage order.
