An advertising mirror for Players Navy Cut tobacco.
The mirror has, in large yellow writing, the words “PLAYERS PLEASE”. The distinctive logo sits in the lower right hand corner. It depicts smoking sailor in a ‘Navy Cut’ cap with two ships behind him; the one on the left is thought to be HMS Britannia and the one on the right is believed to be either HMS Dreadnought or HMS Hero.
Navy Cut Tobacco is a brand of cigarettes manufactured by the Imperial Tobacco Group formerly John Player & Sonsin Nottingham, England. The brand became Player’s Navy Cut. They were particularly popular in England and Germany in the late 19th century and early part of the 20th century, but were later produced in the United States.
