Here we have one of the most iconic hats of the Second World War, one seen in posters, books and films about the African theatre. This cap named after Goering’s sarcastic nickname Hermann Meyer.
This cap replaced the tropical field cap in 1942 and is characterized by its khaki cloth, its neck cover and its high top.
Generally an unpopular cap due to its bulkiness and impracticality when needing to remove it in favour of the helmet these were mainly seen on officers and NCO’s.
The cap we have here is the Luftwaffe shade of olive with the Luftwaffe roundel and oak leaves under an eagle holding the swastika. There are two vent holes to either side, a burlap webbing band under the sweat band to keep the cap stiff and a neck cover held in place with three plastic buttons.
This hat was made by F. Weissbach in Glauchau in Saxony. The cap is marked ‘E42’.

The caps band has a diameter of approx 7 inches (18 cm).
The hat weighs 180 g.

The hat is in excellent condition for its age with little to no wear.
