The L2A1 is the automatic version of the L1A1 SLR. It featured a heavy barrel, selective fire capability, a folding bipod, and was intended to replace older squad automatic weapons like the BAR and Bren. Production of the L2A1 was limited, with fewer than 10,000 units made between 1962 and 1982, including 3,000 produced in 1962 (the same year saw 25,500 L1A1 rifles manufactured). Used primarily by Australian forces and some special forces units, the L2A1 saw service in the Vietnam War, where it was deployed as a squad support weapon. This comes with a 20-round magazine.

This Australian made L1A1-L2A1 has some Enfield and Fazakerley made parts. The serial number is prefixed with AD which was reputedly used by Lithgow in Australia and possibly stands for Australian Defence. The first two digits of the serial number represent the year of manufacture (1962) and the serial numbers start at 1 each year. The serial number is recorded as one that was supplied to New Zealand. The charging handle is marked F60 - for Fazakerley 1960, Fazakerley made parts for the L1A1 which were sent to BSA, Enfield & Lithgow; the factory closed in 1960. The trigger is marked Enfield 64 with a war arrow on the reverse. There are numerous war arrows throughout. This semi-automatic SLR is marked "Rifle 7.62mm L1A1" - so may have been dressed with L2A1 bipod later.

*Condition*
