*British Army, WW2 era, Other Ranks Gordon Highlanders Kilt, Long, size 30-31cm*

WW2 era, military quality, heavyweight kilt to a Gordon Highlander other ranks Soldier. Made with beautifully pleated wool tartan and leather straps and silver chrome buckle belt. Navy, Green and Yellow. The kilt is pleated at the back, with knife pleats, and overlaps at the front, effectively forming an apron. It is fastened by straps on both sides. A kilt-pin (not included) is worn on the right hand side of the front of the kilt, but is not fastened to the underlying layer and is for display only. No hem. Unmarked.
The Gordon tartan is the regimental tartan of the famous Gordon Highlanders. Regimental tartan should not be confused with clan tartan. Like most of the regimental tartans of the British army it had been created by adding an over-stripe to the basic dark blue and green government pattern tartan, which is known more familiarly as Black Watch. In the case of the Gordon Highlanders the over-stripe was yellow and was selected by the Alexander, the 4th Duke from a choice of three submitted by William Forsyth, a weaver and outfitter from the town of Huntly. Forsyth wrote on 15th April 1793 'When I had the honour of communing with His Grace the Duke of Gordon, he was desirous to have patterns of the 42nd Regiment plaid with a small yellow stripe properly placed. I imagine the yellow stripes will appear very lively.'

This Kilt is in excellent condition, with one belt buckle needing some minor restitching, minor moth damage. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
