*British, c.1902–1952, Royal Marines, King’s Crown Helmet Plate / Badge, 2 Lugs*

A good Royal Marines helmet plate or large badge, featuring the King’s Crown above the Gibraltar honour scroll, with laurel wreath, radiating starburst, globe, and fouled anchor below. The central motto reads “Per Mare Per Terram” — “By Sea, By Land” — the historic motto of the Royal Marines.

The badge is of gilt/brass construction with two rear fixing loops/lugs. The King’s Crown dates it broadly to the reigns of Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII or George VI, before the adoption of the Queen’s Crown in 1952.

Approx. Measurements – 7.3cm wide x 8.5cm high.

History Note:
The Royal Marines’ badge combines several long-standing Corps symbols: the globe for worldwide service, the laurel wreath for honour, the fouled anchor for naval association, and “Gibraltar” in recognition of the Corps’ historic role in the capture and defence of Gibraltar in 1704.

*Condition*
Good original display condition with age-related wear, rubbing to the gilt finish, tarnishing and darker patina throughout. Some verdigris/oxidisation visible in recessed areas and to the reverse. Rear loops/lugs present. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
