The T-class submarines, designed in the 1930s, were the Royal Navy’s standard ocean patrol submarines. Of 53 built, they were active in the North Sea, Mediterranean, and Far East, despite limited opportunities to disrupt German shipping early in the war due to heavily mined waters and scarce targets.
HMS Tarn
HMS Tarn (P326) was ordered in 1941, a third group Triton Class Submarine. She was built by Vickers Armstrong, Barrow. She was never commissioned in to the Royal Navy and only laid down on 12 June 1943 and launched on 29 Nov 1944. Renamed HNLMS Tijgerhaai (P336), she entered Dutch service on 28 March 1945 as a Zwaardvisch-class submarine of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
Commissioned near the end of World War II, Tijgerhaai underwent trials throughout 1945 and had a quiet career. She was moored near HMS Sidon during its fatal torpedo malfunction and ran aground in Weymouth Bay on 19 October 1955, requiring tug assistance. Decommissioned on 11 December 1964, she was scrapped on 5 November 1965.
