*British, Post-1950, Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry Cap Badge, Staybrite, Wm Dowler Birmingham*
Original British Army Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry cap badge in anodised aluminium (“Staybrite”) finish, featuring the regiment’s traditional design with the Red Rose of Lancaster in white metal, surrounded by a wreath and the circlet inscribed DUKE OF LANCASTER’S OWN, surmounted by the ducal coronet.
The badge retains its original slider fitting to the reverse stamped:
Wm Dowler (B’Ham) and Staybright, confirming manufacture by William Dowler & Sons, Birmingham, one of the principal British military badge makers of the 20th century.
Lightweight anodised aluminium badges of this type were introduced in the early 1950s to replace brass and bi-metal badges, remaining in use for several decades.

History Note:
The Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry (DLOY) was a historic cavalry and yeomanry regiment with origins in the late 18th century, raised in Lancashire for home defence during the Napoleonic period. The regiment served in various roles through the 19th and 20th centuries, including both World Wars, later becoming part of the Territorial Army.
Staybrite badges such as this example were worn from the mid-1950s onward, a period when the British Army adopted anodised aluminium insignia to reduce maintenance and improve durability. William Dowler of Birmingham supplied large quantities of these badges before the firm became part of the Firmin group in the late 1960s.
