Description

*British, Scots Guards Officers’ Cap Badges, Individually Framed Display Group of Three*

A well-presented and cohesive display group of three original Scots Guards officers’ cap badges, comprising two officers’ Order of the Thistle cap stars and one officers’ flaming grenade badge bearing the Royal Arms, all mounted against Royal Stewart tartan and housed in individual frames.

The group consists of:
- Two silvered, diamond-cut Order of the Thistle star cap badges with gilt circlet and central gilt thistle, bearing the regimental motto “NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT” (“No one provokes me with impunity”).
- One gilt flaming grenade badge with mounted Royal Arms to the ball and Queen’s Crown (St Edward’s Crown) above, dating the piece to the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1953–2022).

All three badges are officers’ quality examples of two-part construction, retaining strong silvered and gilt finishes consistent with private purchase pieces. The star badges display crisp diamond-cut detailing and well-defined thistles with dark enamel ground behind the centres. The grenade badge shows pleasing, even gilt toning and clear detail to the Royal Arms.

The badges are attractively mounted on Royal Stewart tartan backing — a classic Scottish presentation choice — and framed individually, two within matching wooden frames and one within a smaller silver-toned frame.

Approx. Measurements – Wooden frames: 23.5 cm x 23.5 cm. Smaller frame: 14.3 cm x 14.3 cm.

Historical Note:
The Scots Guards, formed in 1642, are one of the five regiments of Foot Guards in the British Army and have served with distinction in major conflicts from the English Civil War through both World Wars and into modern operations.

The regiment’s cap star is derived from the Star of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Scotland’s highest order of chivalry, incorporating the national emblem of the thistle and the historic Scottish royal motto “Nemo Me Impune Lacessit.” The flaming grenade badge bearing the Royal Arms symbolises elite Guards infantry status and remains a defining emblem of the regiment.

*Condition*
All three badges remain in good original condition with natural age-related patina. The silvered stars retain sharp diamond-cut detail and strong gilt centres. The grenade badge displays honest gilt wear and mellow toning consistent with service or display. Frames show light surface marks and minor handling wear commensurate with age. The badges are secured within the mounts and have not been removed for inspection. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
