The British 18-pounder shell was a common artillery round used by the British Army during World War I. This particular shell is a form of trench art. Trench art is art made by soldiers, POWs, and civilians during WWI. It was often created from war materials and provided a creative outlet during the war. This decorative shell has diameter of 84mm and weighed approximately 18 pounds, hence the name. At the rear of the shell is stamped and dated ‘1917’.
