This is a classic W10 military watch with a khaki NATO strap that has become highly sought after for its bold design and historical significance. Produced by the Cabot Watch Company (CWC) for the British Army this was the first quartz watch supplied to the British military. Sometimes referred to as the “G10” after the G1098 stores that issued them, these watches were coded with the NATO Stores Number 6645-99-5415317.
In 1998, W10 serial numbers ranged from 0003 to 7497. In 1999, the contract shifted to Pulsar, which continued to supply General Service watches until 2004, and then from 2007 onward. The quartz “G10” was the first quartz model supplied to the British military, with approximately 165,000 watches provided between 1980 and 2006.
In 1988, the movement transitioned to the ETA 955 series, resulting in a slimmer case compared to earlier, thicker “fat boy” versions. The watch’s tonneau-shaped stainless steel case back is engraved W10/6645-99, 5415317, 5972/98 and the Broad Arrow symbol, indicating British military issue. Its original “T” marking on the dial denotes tritium, a material used for luminescence, giving the hour markers a vintage vanilla tone. The watch’s dial is completely original, featuring sword hands, Arabic numerals, a tracking ring, and a Broad Arrow, all characteristic of military timepieces.
