Description

*British, WW1 Era, Royal Navy Naval Crown Sweetheart Brooch, Silver*

A fine First World War Royal Navy sweetheart brooch in solid silver, measuring 5.5 cm by 1.5 cm. The central motif is the Naval Crown, detailed with alternating ship sterns and sails, soldered to a plain bar brooch. The reverse retains its period pin and clasp, and is clearly stamped SILVER.

Historical Note:
The Naval Crown is one of the most enduring emblems of the Royal Navy, appearing on insignia, ship crests and sweetheart jewellery since the 19th century. Sweetheart brooches such as this were worn on the home front by wives, mothers and sweethearts as a visible sign of pride and support for loved ones serving at sea. During the First World War, the popularity of sweetheart brooches surged, and jewellers across Britain produced designs in silver and enamel for every branch of the services. Royal Navy examples are among the most elegant, symbolising Britain’s maritime power and the sacrifices of sailors on active service.

*Condition*
Good overall condition with age-related patina and surface wear. The Naval Crown detail remains sharp and well-defined. The reverse shows expected tarnishing, with the SILVER mark struck upside down but clearly legible. Pin and clasp are intact and in working order. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
