The British War Medal, awarded to those who served in World War I between August 5, 1914, and November 11, 1918, featured King George V on the obverse and St. George defeating Prussianism on the reverse. About 6.39 million Silver versions and 110,000 Bronze versions were awarded.

The Long Service Good Conduct Medal, King George V Version 1, was given to personnel with fifteen years of service and three good conduct badges.
George James Jackson was born 17 March 1881 Portsea, Portsmouth. He enlisted aged 14, on 9th Dec 1895 at Eastney Barracks, Southsea; listing his trade as scholar. He is recorded as a Bugler 1896-1899; Gunner 1899-1903; Bombardier 1903, Acting Corporal 1904; Bombardier 1904-1906; Corporal 1906-1909; Lance Sergeant 1909-1910; Corporal 1910; Sergeant 1910-1917; Colour-Sergeant 1917-1918; Acting Sergeant-Major (Warrant Officer Class 1) 1918; Quarter-Master Sergeant (Warrant Officer Class 2) – 1918-1920. He served with the Royal Marine Garrison, Cromarty (HMS Columbine, HMS Gunner, HMS Crescent). He died 29 Jan 1966.
