Description

*British, WW2, HMS Tactician - Original Photograph and Triton Class Submarine Model*

Approximate Measurements:
Model: 27cm long x 3.3cm wide, 5.7 tall
Photograph: 20.6cm x 14cm (excluding white frame on base)

The model features an unnamed WW2 British submarine, likely T-Class, with a felt base. Accompanied by a photograph dated October 14, 1955, which depicts HMS Tactician, a T-Class submarine aground at Balmoral Beach, Sydney, Australia, her bow stuck in sand and stern near rocks. At the time, she was one of two Royal Navy submarines attached to the Australian Defence Forces. This photograph originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007.

HMS Tactician (P314) was a third-group Triton-class submarine built by Vickers-Armstrongs and launched on July 29, 1942. During the war, she operated in the Mediterranean and Far East, sinking Italian vessels V17/Pia, Bice, and Rosandra, as well as Japanese and Siamese ships. Under Lt. Cdr. Anthony Collett, she rescued a downed U.S. airman during Operation Cockpit and participated in exercises post-war before being scrapped in December 1963.

The T-class submarines, designed in the 1930s, were the Royal Navy's standard ocean patrol submarines. Of 53 built, they were active in the North Sea, Mediterranean, and Far East, despite limited opportunities to disrupt German shipping early in the war due to heavily mined waters and scarce targets.

*Condition*
Good used condition. Minor marks to the photograph and model commensurate with age and service. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
