Description

*British, WW2, Mk VII Water Bottle / Canteen, Felt Covered, Cork Stopper, Complete*

A good original British Army Mk VII water bottle, the standard service canteen introduced in 1939 and widely used throughout the Second World War and into the post-war period.

The bottle is of the correct enamelled steel construction, finished in the characteristic cobalt blue, and retains its original olive drab wool felt cover. The felt covering remains intact with visible hand stitching along the seam, and shows typical service wear and field staining consistent with age and use.

The neck retains its original cork stopper, fitted with the correct metal cap and suspension loop. The cork shows age and wear but remains a desirable original component, often missing on these.

The blue enamel neck is clearly visible, and the interior appears clean. The base and sides show no signs of major damage, only expected handling wear.

A classic and increasingly harder-to-find piece of British field equipment, particularly with its original cork and felt covering intact.

History Note:
The Mk VII water bottle was introduced in 1939 to replace the earlier Mk VI pattern and became the standard British Army issue throughout WWII. It was designed for use with the 1937 Pattern webbing system, carried in a dedicated webbing carrier.

The felt covering served both to insulate the contents and reduce noise in the field, while the enamelled steel body provided durability. These bottles saw extensive service with British and Commonwealth forces across all theatres of the war.

*Condition*
In good original condition. Felt cover intact with service wear, staining, and some mud covered areas. Stitching visible and holding. Enamel looks in good consition. Cork stopper present with age-related wear and light deterioration. Cord present. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
