*British, WW2, The Africa Star Medal, with Ribbon and 1st Army Bar*
The Africa Star with 1st Army Bar is a World War II campaign medal awarded to those who served with the 1st Army in North Africa between November 8, 1942 and May 12, 1943. The 1st Army was formed to command British and American land forces in Operation Torch in Algeria and Morocco.
It was among the first two campaign stars created during the war, along with the 1939–43 Star (later renamed the 1939–1945 Star). By May 1945, a total of eight campaign stars and nine clasps had been instituted by the United Kingdom to acknowledge wartime service. Later additions included the Arctic Star and the Bomber Command Clasp, introduced on 26 February 2013. A maximum of six campaign stars could be awarded to any individual, with certain clasps signifying eligibility for additional stars. However, only one clasp could be worn on each campaign star.
