~ c1800 Cosh Probably For Royal Navy Press Gang Use ~

A very interesting 12 inch long weighted hardwood cosh, with a patterned copper wire braid wrapped to the upper area.

It looks to be a sea service concealed 'up the sleeve' type for 'recruiting' vagrants and drunk dis-orderlies at the docks area to His Majesty's Sea Service. It dates to around circa 1800 and is in its original condition.

The piece is in good order.

The cosh has a total length of 30 cm (12 inches) including the ring.
