~ c1905 Russo-Japanese War Japanese Howitzer Table Lighter ~
A fantastic cast metal chrome plated ornate table lighter from the early 20th century.
It is based on the 28cm Howitzer L/10, an example of which is viewable in Matsuyama. Matsuyama is the capital city of Ehime Prefecture on the island of Shikoku in Japan and also Shikoku’s largest city. They were used with devastating affect at the battle of the Russian Port Arthur in December 1904. All six would be raised, repaired, renamed, and recommissioned by the Japanese after the war. Four battleships and two cruisers were sunk by them.
~ Condition ~
The piece is in excellent order, there is some loss of chrome plating. The spring is rather weak on the ships wheel release mechanism. The spring on the actual lighter is good and strong and it releases well.
~ Dimensions ~
The piece is 18 cm (7 inches) long, 14 cm (5.5 inches) tall and 11.5 cm (4.25 inches) wide. It weighs 1.2 Kg.
