A fine example, this is a leather bodied shell of superb quality, Prussian officer’s, helmet plate, retaining nearly all the original fine gilt wash finish.
It has an officer’s scaled chinstraps and circular spike base with officer pattern spike.
The helmet has officer’s pattern, state and national cockades, gilt front trim and rear spine.
It is complete with the officer’s leather sweatband and artificial silk lining to the interior.
It comes with its original leather, fabric lined storage box.
~ Dimensions ~
The helmet has a height of 13.5 inches (34 cm) from spike to chinstrap buckle.
With the chinstrap above the peak, it has a height of 10 inches (25.5 cm) from the spike to the lowest part of the brim.
It is inches 7.5 (19 cm) wide and is inches 9.5 (23 cm) across from peak to rear.
It weighs 370 g.
The box is 11 inches (28 cm) high, 11 inches (28 cm) wide and 9.5 inches (23 cm) deep.
The set weight is 1.1Kg.
~ Condition ~
It is in excellent condition considering its age.
The leather forming the outer dome has one minor, shallow crack at the rear.
The spike fittings have lost the gilt wash finish that would have been originally applied.
The cream inner liner is showing slight signs of weakening, but the sweatband is pristine.
The yellow fabric lining of the box has some damp staining and wear, the leather straps show considerable wear.
A little bubble wrap has been packed around the spike to protect it and the box.
