~ Circa 1550 Fine Quality Japanese Wakizashi With Two Hole Tang And Scabbard ~
The Wakizashi has an iron fuchi-kashira decorated in gold with stylised flower heads and tendrils; the tsuba has a similar pattern. The menuki is complete on both sides, with a finely woven Tsuka Ito wrapped around the fishskin grip.
The scabbard is lacquered black, with a small hidden blade embellished with a prawn.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade has a length of 21.5 inches (54.5 cm), with the sword measuring 29 inches (73.6 cm) overall, and 32inches (81.3 cm) when sheathed. It weighs 880g in total.
~ Condition ~
Some minor wearing to the blade with a few small nicks, but it appears mostly clean and has been polished well and in is good order.
The Tsuba has surface rust, but the patterns remain visible.
The grip is quite worn.
The scabbard has some minor wear but remains in overall excellent condition.
