~ Circa 1800 French Barrel Sash ~
Here we have a delightful piece in wonderful condition, the barrel sash of a French soldier from the Napoleonic War Era.
The barrel sash was something most commonly associated with the hussar’s regiments of all nationalities, the hussars originally being a Hungarian troop type the uniforms adopted were all copied from the originals and the barrel sash was prominent in the British, French and Prussian hussars along with the tight fitting dolman jacket and over the shoulder pelisse.
This sash is made from very fine red fabric braid around a core of un-dyed threads. The dividing sections are made from gold braid around a solid core to keep the sash neat. The belt section has been made with some gold braid and bullion wrapped around a solid (presumably wooden) toggle fastener and on the opposite end two strands of braid held together with a gold bullion tassle.

The sash is 52 inches (133 cm) long.

~ Condition ~
The sash is in a good condition for its age.
There is some minor fraying to the red fabric.
There is some loss of colour to the gold braid sections.
The gold bullion tassel and toggle are in good condition.
