Description

~ Circa 1900 Watercolour Of A Venice Scene By Edward Parrini ~

A lovely maritime watercolour of a scene in Venice by the painter Edward Parrini.

He was born in Constantinople of Italian parentage. He was orphaned as a child and was sent back to Italy to other members of the family for his upbringing and education.

The painting depicts some sailing boats and a gondola in the waters just outside of Venice.

The piece is signed by the artist to the bottom left hand corner.

The painting is mounted and presented in a modern glazed frame.

~ Dimensions ~

The image measures 44.5cm (17 ½ inches) by 24cm (9 ½ inches).

The frame measures 59cm (23 ¼ inches) by 39cm (15 ½ inches).

It weighs 2.1Kg.

~ Condition ~

The painting is in a very nice condition aside from a couple of foxing marks to the edges but these do not detract from the quality of the piece.

The frame is in good order.

~ Edward Louis Anthony Peter Parrini (1858 – 1914) ~

Born Constantinople 1858 and educated at Florence and Naples University.

He came to London in1885 as an apprentice artist for the murals in Brompton Oratory in Kensington. He married and remained in London until his death in 1914.

Census documents show his occupation as ‘scenic artist’ but a sketch book owned by his grandson indicated he was a jobbing artist and sign writer. Most of his artistic work is in watercolour although a few oil paintings also exist.
