This is an exquisite selection of ‘The London Illustrated News’ newspaper covering the some of the most important events of the mid 19th century.
The collection comprises of 21 newspapers or supplements, mostly from 1848. The newspapers depict the events that shook Europe at the time and have changed the course of history forever.
There are also a number of editions from 1850 and 1852 covering the visits of Napoleon III, president of France (20 December 1848 – 2 December 1852) and later Emperor (2 December 1852 – 4 September 1870), and the death of The Duke of Wellington (14 September 1852).
The 1848 editions are illustrated with scenes of the second French revolution, German and Belgium revolutions and the latest news of the time about the outgoing events.
No. 591, Vol. XXI, Saturday, November 20, 1852, of the ‘Illustrated News’ comes with No. 592 Supplement, depicting the funeral of one of the greatest people of the age, The Duke of Wellington. There is also an illustration depicting both Admiral Nelson and Duke of Wellington on a meeting.

The later added hard covers of the collection are 16.2 inches (41.3 cm) tall and 11.5 inches (29 cm) wide.
The collection weighs 2.15 kg.
~ Condition ~
The collection is in excellent condition for its age. A few pages of the whole collection have minor tears and repairs and just one page of an 1850’s edition (the Classifieds ads) has a part of the top missing.
The rest of the editions are immaculate.
