*German, WW2, 1935 Pattern, Kriegsmarine Sports Shirt Insignia, Large, Mounted*
This Kriegsmarine Sports Shirt Insignia is a standard issue, BeVo construction in white cotton. The machine-embroidered Kriegsmarine eagle, gripping a wreathed canted swastika, is in blue (designated for use by the German Navy) and is set against a white backing. The item appears to be unused and measures 24.5cm wide x 12.5cm deep, 40x30cm framed.
The Kriegsmarine, or War Navy, adopted a modified version of the NSDAP’s national eagle on March 24, 1934, for placement on headgear and the right breast of the uniform. Prioritizing the physical fitness of its personnel, the Kriegsmarine, issued new recruits a sports uniform consisting of a pullover “tank top” shirt, navy blue or white shorts, athletic shoes, and a two-piece “sweat suit.” Initially, sports shirts featured a fouled anchor insignia until August 25, 1932, when Unit Sports Badges were introduced. On May 3, 1935, the M35 sports shirt eagle for EM/NCO’s replaced the Weimar era Reichsmarine Unit Sports Badge used from 1919 to 1933.
*Condition*
The insignia has minor marks and a light patina throughout, normal age toning to the white fibers. It is in good condition. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
