A very nice original German Second World War Mauser P.08 Luger pistol, manufactured in 1942 and marked with the Mauser factory code “byf” to the toggle. This example is a matching-numbers pistol, retaining correct serial numbering to the frame, barrel, receiver, and the expected last two digits to the small components, including toggle parts, side plate, and takedown lever.
The pistol is chambered in 9mm Parabellum and fitted with the standard 100 mm barrel. It retains its original wartime phenolic (Bakelite) grips, correctly checkered and well fitted to the frame. Inspection stamps include the correct Waffenamt 135 (straight-wing eagle) marks, consistent with Mauser Oberndorf production during 1941–42.
The safety bar is crisply marked “GESICHERT”, with honest engagement wear visible, and the pistol retains its correct extractor, toggle train, rear sight, and controls. Supplied with a non-matching but period-correct magazine.
The pistol has been EU-spec deactivated to current standards, retaining a working action and is accompanied by its Birmingham Proof House Deactivation Certificate.
Historical Note:
The P.08 Luger was Germany’s iconic service pistol, widely issued to the Wehrmacht during the early years of the Second World War. By 1942, production at Mauser’s Oberndorf factory was operating at full wartime capacity, supplying Lugers alongside the increasingly adopted Walther P.38.
This example represents a correct, matching Mauser P.08 from peak wartime production, illustrating the standard service pistol carried by German forces across all theatres of the conflict.
*Condition*
The pistol shows honest wartime service wear throughout. The original blued finish remains, now thinned in areas with edge wear to the frame, side plate, and toggle, consistent with age and use. Markings remain clear and legible, with no evidence of refinish or over-polishing. The Bakelite grips are intact, with good colour and checkering, showing minor surface wear only. Deactivation work is professionally executed and compliant with EU standards, with the external profile well preserved and the action remaining operable.
