Description

*German, WW2, 1943, Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Badge - Kriegsabzeichen für Marineartillerie, by FLL 43 - Friedrich Linden of Lüdenscheid*

Maker Marked to the reverse: FLL 43

Rare date and maker marked badge - Kriegsabzeichen für Marineartillerie by Friedrich Linden of Lüdenscheid, 1943. It is constructed from a die-struck zinc base with gold gilding, black burnishing, and a protective lacquer coating. It features the correct soldered and outlined steel sheet metal hinge, a soldered tombak round wire catch, and a steel coke bottle pin.

The Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery badge, instituted on June 24, 1941, by Admiral Erich Raeder, was awarded to land-based naval coastal and anti-aircraft personnel in recognition of their achievements. Designed by Otto Placzek of Berlin, the badge features a coastal artillery flak 88 gun in the center, with a German eagle clutching a swastika in its talons above, all surrounded by an oval oak leaf wreath. Early war versions were made of bronze, while later versions were made of nickel. The badge was worn on the lower part of the left breast pocket of the naval service tunic.

The criteria for receiving the award included:
-Displaying leadership relevant to the recipient’s position within the gun crew.
-Performing a single act of meritorious service for which no other award could be given.
-Being killed in action, contracting a fatal illness, or dying by accident in the line of duty.
-Accumulating eight points as a member of a gun crew.
This badge recognized the actions of both individuals and crew members and was also awarded posthumously to those killed in action within these units.

*Condition*
