A hand made fibre-glass life size replica of the figurehead used on HMS Ajax (1809).
Named after the Greek hero Ajax, the figurehead has his bust. He is wearing a plumed crown & a majestic breastplate and is hand painted using green, blue, red & yellow colours. The figurehead incorporates a scrolled base, the sides of which are decorated with a sword and shield based motif.

~ HMS Ajax (1809) ~
HMS Ajax (1809) was a 74-gun third rate launched in 1809. She took part in various actions of the Napoleonic Wars and converted in 1848 to steam and screw. The ship was broken up in 1864, but her figurehead is preserved in the National Museum at Greenwich.
~ Dimensions ~
The figurehead has a standing height of 67 inches (170.25cm), a width of 22 inches (56cm)and a depth of 20 inches (50.75cm). It weighs approx 15kg.
~ Condition ~
The figurehead is in excellent condition. Some minor wear from being on display, such as minor paint chipping in a few areas, but it remains complete and largely undamaged.
