Description

~ Fine Late Victorian Cranberry Glass Tankard With Silver Lid And Hand Painted Porcelain Top ~

A wonderful piece of glass with cranberry red floral designs and four buildings painted in a window like setting around the circumference.

It has a glass handle to the side, to note the handle seems a little off centre towards the base. The hinge to the lid is fixed to the glass handle. There is a metal wire which keeps the hinge attached to the glass handle; the hinge does wobble a little around the flimsy fixture.

The lid is made from silver with a continental hallmark to it. There is a painting on porcelain to the top of the lid depicting a lady rowing in a canoe.

About as good as they come for this type.

~ Dimensions ~

The glass has a diameter of 3 ½ inches (9cm), the handle sticks out 1.75 inches (4.5cm) from the body and the height is 6 inches (15cm).
It weighs 540g.

~ Condition ~

Overall the glass is in great condition for its age, the cranberry red remains very vivid and clear for its age. There is a crack to the bottom of the glass handle which looks to have been glued in place for repair at one point. The image on the top of the lid is in fantastic condition other than the fact that the gilt rim around the edge is mostly faded away. The silver is in decent condition, only minor wear and could do with another clean.
