~ Admiral Lord Nelson’s Wife Francis Leather Circa 1820 ~
The letter was sent from Paris between 1818 and 1822 by Frances “Fanny” Nelson (1761-1831), Nelson’s wife.
The letter, written in the third person, reads…
“Viscount Nelson presents her compliments to Mrs Atkyns and requests the favours of her company to dinner on Thursday next 5 o’clock April 10th to meet her two friends Mr & Mrs Tarleton, it will only be a family dinner,
Monday Evening, April 15th, Rue Monekre.”
Tarleton most likely refers to General Sir Banastre Tarleton (1754-1833) – the British Soldier who served in the American War of Independence, and his
wife Susan.
There are some light pencil annotations made by a former owner.
