Description

~ Mid 19th C. Staffordshire Figurine Statue Of General Napier ~

A large Staffordshire portrait figure of the famous British army officer General Sir Charles James Napier.

The figure is modelled standing beside a cannon and cannon balls in military uniform with a cape and hat in each hand.

It is painted in rich enamel colours and titled to the edge of the oval base ‘General Napier’.

~ Dimensions ~

The figure meausres 19cm (7 ½ inches) wide, 11cm (4 ¼ inches) deep and 41cm (16 inches) in height.

It weighs 2.2 Kg.

~ Condition ~

There has been a little damage to the piece. There are a few visible cracks around the shoulders of the figure, some of which may have ended up in breakage. These have signs of repair and are not immediately noticeable unless on closer inspection.

The figure also has a few marks that look similar to cracks (around the trouser area) but these are from the firing process and not damage.

Overall the piece is in a decent condition and presents well.

~ General Napier ~

General Sir Charles James Napier, GCB (10 August 1782 – 29 August 1853), was an officer and veteran of the British Army's Peninsular and 1812 campaigns, and later a Major General of the Bombay Army, during which period he led the military conquest of Sindh, before serving as the Governor of Sindh, and Commander-in-Chief in India.
