*Original WW2, 1939, Kriegsmarine (Navy) M35 Single Decal Helmet*
The German helmet from World War II is an iconic symbol of German soldiers during that era. Its unique design signifies both the fear associated with German forces and their technological advancement. Production of these helmets occurred from 1935 to 1945, totaling around 25 million units from five different manufacturers. The Wehrmacht ('defence force') were the unified armed forces of Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945, consisting of the Heer (army), the Kriegsmarine (navy) and the Luftwaffe (air force).
Model 35 (M35) was manufactured from 1935 to 1940. This helmet is stamped ET62 - ET indicating that the manufacturer was Eisenhüttenwerke, Thale who made models M35, M40 and M42. It is a size 62 batch number 4062 which indicates it was produced in 1939 with a Reinforced Aluminium Liner Band, Parade Finish Light Green. The name of the soldier is clearly written on the rim and again on the leather liner 'O. Wege'. It retains its original factory-applied green paint and Kriegsmarine decal applied to the left-hand side. It looks like it had a decal on the right-hand side that has been removed. A Wehrmacht directive in March 1940 mandated that the national shield on the right side of the helmet be removed. The helmet's design includes vents on both sides, three split rivets securing the liner, and a visor to protect against shrapnel, debris, sunlight, and rain.
*Condition*
There are minor chips and and scrapes expected with a combat helmet. All liner rivets are in place and untouched and the leather liner is in good condition, darkened with evidence of wear. The chin strap is broken in two places but all parts are accounted for. The liner still has the original draw string attached. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
