~ Pair Of George II Open Silver Cauldron Salts London 1740 With Inlays & Spoons ~
A lovely pair of George II open silver salts.
The salts are of circular bowl form and rest on three hoofed feet.
They are plain silver with rope twist style decoration to the rims.
The salts have blue glass liners. The liners are not of the same style suggesting one is a replacement (one fits very well, the other not so).
The bowls are hallmarked to the undersides for London, 1740. The makers stamps are for Edward Wood.
The salts each come with circular bowl serving spoons.
The hallmarks on the spoons are too worn to read so it is quite possible they are not original to the salts.
~ Dimensions ~
The bowls each have a diameter of 7.5cm (3 inches) and stand at 4.5cm (1 ¾ inches).
The spoons measure 9.5cm (3 ¾ inches) each in length.
The set weighs 310g.
~ Condition ~
The bowls are in great condition. There is some minor tarnishing to the insides but this is covered by the glass liners. There is some wear to the
hallmarks.
The spoon handles are a little out of shape as they are quite delicate, with a few spots of tarnishing to the bowls and worn hallmarks but the spoons are
in a generally good condition.
The liners are in great condition with no damage.
